Fifty-eight years on these streets.
We've been the plumber Virginia Beach calls since 1968 — through the Kempsville build-out, the Great Neck tear-downs, and every nor'easter in between. We know which neighborhoods have clay laterals, which have polybutylene, and which sit low enough that a high tide backs up the drains.

Plumbing Problems Particular To Virginia Beach
This is a coastal city built on sand with a high water table, and that shapes everything under your house.
Shallow groundwater means leaks don't surface where they start. Sandy soil lets roots travel much farther from a tree than homeowners expect. Salt air eats hose bibs and exterior fittings faster than inland. And in the lower-lying neighborhoods, a spring tide plus a heavy rain will reveal every weak joint in a sewer lateral at once.
We've worked all of it, for decades, in these exact neighborhoods — which usually means we can tell you what's likely wrong before the truck pulls up.
A high water table
Groundwater sits close to the surface here, so a buried leak spreads sideways instead of surfacing where it started. Electronic detection matters more than guesswork.
Sandy soil and long roots
Roots travel much farther through sand than through clay. A live oak forty feet from the house is still a candidate for the intrusion in your lateral.
Tidal backups
In the lower neighborhoods a spring tide with heavy rain pressurizes the system and finds every weak joint at once. Recurring wet-weather backups are a structural clue.
Salt air on fittings
Hose bibs, exterior valves, and crawlspace connections corrode faster within a few miles of the water. Worth a look before they fail in January.

Commonly Asked Questions
Virginia Beach questions, answered.
How fast can you get to my neighborhood?
We're based in Virginia Beach with fifteen trucks running out of the city, so an emergency call doesn't begin with a long drive in. For urgent work we aim to have someone rolling within the hour; routine appointments are usually same-day or next-day depending on when you call.
Why does my drain back up every time it rains hard?
That pattern almost always means the lateral has an opening — a cracked joint or a separated section — letting groundwater in. When the water table rises with a heavy rain or a high tide, the line fills faster than it can drain. A camera inspection will show you exactly where.
Does the city or the homeowner own the sewer lateral?
In most Hampton Roads jurisdictions the homeowner owns the lateral from the house to the city main, including the part under the sidewalk or street. We'll identify on camera exactly where the defect sits, and if it's on the city's side we'll tell you and point you to the right department.
My house is from the sixties. What's under the yard?
Most likely vitrified clay for the sewer and galvanized steel for the water line, though plenty of Virginia Beach homes from that era have been partially replaced. If it was built between the late seventies and mid-nineties, grey polybutylene water line is common and worth planning to replace.
Do you serve outside the city limits?
We cover Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, and much of the Peninsula. If you're on the edge of our range, call — we'd rather tell you honestly whether we can get to you than take a job we can't serve well.
What payment methods do you take?
Cash, check, and major credit cards. Financing is available for larger repairs, and we offer teacher and military discounts — ask the dispatcher when you book rather than after the invoice.
