You May Still Qualify for Water Heater Tax Credit

If you are purchasing a water heater for your existing home, your principle residence, you may qualify for a tax credit of 30% for up to $1500 (renters do not qualify, you must own). Expiration for this credit is December 31, 2010.

Two types of water heaters are acceptable in order to receive the credit:

Gas, Oil, Propane Water Heater

  • Water heating accounts for 14-25% of in-home heating
  • Energy Factor = 0.82 OR a thermal efficiency of at least 90%.
  • Tax credit includes installation cost

Electric Heat Pump Water Heater

  • Water heating accounts for 14-25% of in-home heating
  • Energy Factor = 2.0
  • Tax credit includes installation cost
